Seeing and touching things in person is an entirely different shopping experience. I love the possibility and excitement of not knowing what I’ll find and the thrill I get when I see that perfect piece. So, I always shop in-person for my Northern Virginia interior design projects.
Big retailers get enough love as it is, and I like to support local businesses when searching for one-of-a-kind pieces that perfectly fit my client’s personality and the project’s overall look and feel. My Favorite Places to Shop for Interior Design Projects in Northern Virginia
1. The Old Lucketts Store
Lucketts is a vintage wonderland spanning three floors of a funky old building. I rarely leave empty-handed. It’s my favorite place to hunt for vintage and antiques. I usually take a few laps around the store and find something I didn’t see the first time. They hold a huge outdoor market twice a year, and I never miss it (except for the time I was really sick and did miss it). 42350 Lucketts Road Leesburg
2. Range Global Goods
Update-Sadly Range has closed its brick and mortar location, but they still have an online shop! A husband and wife team turned their passion for exploring the world into a thoughtfully curated boutique filled with a diverse collection of goods sourced directly from artisans around the globe. The store is a treasure trove for anyone seeking one-of-a-kind handmade and high-quality home decor items, such as intricately woven handmade rugs, pillows, ceramics, and lighting. 18 W Market St # 1, Leesburg
3. WLDWST
WLDWST is full of handpicked local and independent brands and lots of vintage items. The store is stunning, which is no surprise since the owners are also interior designers with a keen eye for design. 4. Elsass
Walking through Elsass’s showroom filled with antiques from the Alsace region of France is an experience unto itself. It’s hard to believe that the bright and airy building started as a car dealership in the 1920s. The furniture is GORGEOUS, and they’ve also got an impressive collection of art, baskets, trays, rugs, and small decorative items. Don’t miss the luxury candles by Vas & Lux, a woman-owned local business. Each candle is hand-poured into a vintage or antique vessel. 5 E Loudoun St Round Hill
5. Salt & Sundry
Whenever I’m in DC, I make it a point to visit Salt & Sundry, a home + lifestyle boutique featuring an eclectic mix of goods from independent makers and designers, both local and across the globe. Their collection of pillows, art pieces, rugs, lighting fixtures, coffee table books, and other home decor are all brimming with personality. Two locations: 1309 5th St NE and 1625 14th St NW
6. Goodwood DC
Goodwood DC is the spot for well-maintained and reasonably priced 19th Century antiques, mid-mod, and other vintage furniture and home decor. They have an extensive collection of unique pieces with plenty of character and charm. Serious shoppers follow Goodwood on Instagram to stay up-to-date with their latest inventory and snag their favorite pieces before anyone else can. 1428 U Street NW
