Yes, a coffee table is a functional piece of furniture. It’s where you put your feet up to read the latest issue of Architectural Digest, where you place your Spindrift in between sips, and where the remote is *supposed to go* so you never have to tear the room apart trying to find it. But a coffee table can be functional AND fun. It can make a statement and show off your personality without saying a word. A coffee table can spark joy and start conversations when friends come over. It can serve as a reminder to yourself daily that you’re creating a home that’s true to you, not just something pulled from a generic catalog. I’m talking about unique coffee tables people.
Speaking of generic, scroll through the coffee tables on most furniture websites, and you’ll see a whole lot of the same thing. No ingenuity or fun details. The usual shapes. The usual materials. Basically, a top with some legs. Which is totally fine if you’re the kind of person who’s cool with something that just gets that job done.
