Statement Chairs: Why Every Home Needs This Fun & Funky Accent Piece

woman shaped statement chair

What exactly is a statement chair? Well, it’s pretty much what it sounds like—an accent chair that doesn’t just sit quietly in the corner. Nope, this one’s here to turn heads. While some chairs like to blend in and play it cool, a statement chair shows up with a bold shape, fun pattern, or eye-popping color. And if it’s rocking all three? Oh, honey, that chair is stealing the show.

Some statement chairs are practical, looking all cozy and inviting, practically begging you to sink in with a cup of tea. Others? Not so much. Sitting in them looks like an Olympic sport—and not the fun kind. But who cares? Sometimes a chair doesn’t need to be functional; it can just be a piece of art doing its thing!

Now, let’s check out some interiors with killer statement chairs.

Statement Chairs in the Wild

That red chair is the perfect cherry on top of this fresh and casual living room. What a showstopper. The intertwined/twisted seat back is unexpected, and the pattern and color are funky and bold. You can’t help but be immediately drawn to it. This guy looks pretty comfortable for a short sit too, making it fun to look at AND practical. Win-win!

Ooooh, those curves! The bentwood chair above has an incredible shape with lots of movement. It feels like one continuous flowing wave. Is it the most comfortable-looking chair? Nope. But let’s pretend there’s a more inviting place to sit out of view. Maybe this is the seat you offer guests that you don’t want hanging around for too long.

This modernist gem is the kind of statement chair you could totally take a nap in. I mean, just look at that headrest and snuggly sheepskin! The mix of the sleek steel frame, fluffy sheepskin, and rope-wrapped body is *chef’s kiss*. Such a cool contrast. You can’t see the rope details super well in the pic, but trust me—they’re just as striking in person. It’s hard to see the rope construction in the photo, but you can see it in all its glory here.

This chair is basically art disguised as furniture—playful, sexy, and anything but boring. It’s got that “look at me” vibe like it’s fresh from the salon with a brand-new manicure. And it literally does have a manicure! It’s quirky, over-the-top, and unapologetically fun—the kind of piece people either love or side-eye. No in-between.

So now you know exactly what sets a statement chair apart from the rest. Nothing subdued or subtle about them. They’re all about bringing drama and imagination to a space. Which of the statement chairs above are your favorite?

Hi, I'm
Jess.

The interior design mastermind behind this blog. I think weird is wonderful, animal print should be considered a neutral, and life’s too short to not have a home where every room, nook, and doodad gives you a little bump—a thrill—every time you look around. If you agree, we’ll get along perfectly.
